Sell My Car Berkshire Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 October 2026

Who we are

Sell My Car Berkshire is a trading name of The Transport Buyer Limited (company number 13130275), Hodmore Farm House, Mapledurham, Reading RG4 7UN. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions about it, email info@sell-my-car-berkshire.co.uk or call 07818 153003.

What information we collect

  • Valuation requests: your name, email address, phone number, vehicle registration, mileage, service history, condition and whether the vehicle has mechanical issues.
  • Photos: any photos of your vehicle you upload after requesting a valuation, along with your name, phone number and registration so we can match them to your enquiry. Photos are resized in your browser before upload, which also removes embedded data such as GPS location in most cases.
  • Callback requests: your name, phone number and registration.
  • WhatsApp, phone and email: anything you choose to send us when you contact us directly.
  • Sale records: if you sell us a vehicle, the details needed to complete the purchase, such as your address, proof of ownership and the bank details we pay into.
  • Website usage: information about how you use the site, collected through Google Tag Manager and the analytics tools it loads (see Cookies below).

How we use it

We use your information to value your vehicle, contact you about your enquiry, arrange collection and payment, complete the paperwork for the sale (including notifying the DVLA), keep the records we are legally required to keep, and understand how our website is used so we can improve it.

Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and performing that contract (valuations, collection and payment); our legal obligations (financial and vehicle records); and our legitimate interests in running and improving our business (website analytics and following up on your enquiry). We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing unrelated to your enquiry.

Who we share it with

  • Netlify, which hosts this website and receives and stores form submissions and photos on our behalf.
  • Google, which provides our email (Google Workspace) and Google Tag Manager / analytics, and the maps shown on our location pages.
  • WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to contact us or receive your quote by WhatsApp.
  • The DVLA and other authorities, where the law requires it, for example when ownership of a vehicle changes.

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.

How long we keep it

If you don’t sell us your vehicle, we keep your enquiry and photos for up to 12 months and then delete them. If you do sell us a vehicle, we keep the sale records for 6 years after the end of the financial year in which the sale took place, as required for tax and accounting purposes.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use Google Tag Manager, which may load analytics tools that set cookies to measure visits and which pages are used. The site also stores a few small items in your browser that don’t identify you: whether you’ve already seen our callback popup and WhatsApp welcome message, and, for the current visit only, the name, phone number and registration from your valuation request so the photo form can be linked to it. You can clear or block these at any time in your browser settings.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to us using it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details above. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first, so please contact us before you do.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
